The people who run a permitted mine, helping you plan yours.

Cantex helps operators plan and develop gravel pits, drawing on the certified mine supervision behind our own permitted operation. We bring practical, hands-on experience to the process and work alongside the licensed professionals responsible for permitting.

What we can help with.

This service grew naturally from the work we were already doing. Operators with suitable ground would come to us for help understanding what it would take to develop a producing pit. Over time, that informal guidance became a service of its own, drawing on the same practical experience we use to operate our Summerland Pit and support crushing projects across BC.

Drone survey

A current picture of the site: the ground, the faces, the stockpiles. Useful when you are planning a pit, and useful again when you want to know what you actually have on the ground.

Pit development planning

Where the material is, how much of it there is, how to phase the benches so the site still works in year five, and what it takes to run it as a mine rather than a hole in the ground.

Permitting support

In British Columbia a gravel pit is legally a mine, and the paperwork reflects that. We can tell you what the application asks for and help you get ready for it. The permitting work itself is specialist work, and we will point you at the specialists rather than pretend otherwise.

Built on First-Hand Pit Experience

Our guidance comes from operating a permitted mine ourselves. Cantex runs the Summerland pit under certified BC Mines Act supervision, with all three levels represented in-house: Mine Supervisor, Shift Boss, and Mine Manager. That gives our team practical experience with the operational, safety, and regulatory considerations that go into developing and running a producing aggregate pit.

When the pit is ready to produce.

Once your pit is developed, the next step is turning the source material into a usable product. Cantex can bring the crushing plant directly to your site and produce aggregate to your required gradation. If the project isn't the right fit for our equipment or capabilities, we'll tell you upfront.

Common questions about pit development consulting.

What does pit development consulting cover?

Pit development planning, phasing, and the practical side of getting a site into production: where the material is, how to sequence the benches, what a Mines Act operation has to look like day to day, and what a permit application will ask you for.

Do you handle the permitting and licensing?

We assist with it. We can tell you what the process asks for and help you prepare for it, but the permitting work itself is specialist work and we will say so rather than take it on. We do not present ourselves as a licensed permitting consultancy.

Who does the work?

The same people who run our Summerland pit and our crushing spreads. That is where the experience comes from: a certified mine manager, a shift boss, and mine-supervisor-certified crews operating a permitted mine, not a desk exercise.

Do you fly drone surveys?

Yes. Drone survey gives you a current picture of the site, the stockpiles, and the ground you are working with, and it is useful both for planning a pit and for tracking volumes once it is running.

Where do you provide pit development consulting?

British Columbia, as a rule. Tell us where the site is and what stage it is at and we will tell you straight whether we are the right people for it.

Ready to get started?

Tell us about the property. We will walk you through what developing it involves and what a permit application will ask for.
